Tyler Carlin

Company Director

Film

As a director and cinematographer, Tyler Carlin’s passion for narrative storytelling, drives him to create all forms and genres of cinematic art. Shooting for nearly 10 years, he has strived to capture compelling people and stories around him, which have led to multiple collaborations throughout Southern California. Past work include music videos, documentaries, weddings, commercials, and live events. In recent years, Carlin has achieved recognition awards in the Dances With Films and Newport Beach Film Festival for his cinematography work on multiple short and feature-length projects.

"I have a fascination for the past, so when I shoot a project, you will certainly see me taking inspiration from the classic styles of the 60s, 70s and 80s, integrating that tone into our modern digital age. My personal favorite medium to shoot is 16mm, but due to the expenses of film, I primarily shoot digitally.

My perspective as a filmmaker is that you can typically get what you want with little resources, as long as you have a creative mind. So what I try to do is make clients' visions come to life using anything at hand, regardless the budget, which is actually pretty fun."

Photography

Carlin shoots primarily on 35mm and 120mm film, with occasional digital photography. He prefers to capture cinematic images as part of a story, as well as stylistic shoots within the fashion and modeling worlds. Natural light is heavy in Carlin’s work, however, he is no stranger to implementing hyper-stylistic color and light design.

"Natural occurrences of light, mark a specific place in time and space. I see it as my job to document and exaggerate these moments into a story or an aesthetic feeling, even if I may have to bring in and shape some extra light. A blackbox studio-shoot is unique however, creating something new with complete freedom to shape light out of darkness. Regardless of lighting style, its all about capturing an emotion."
